I don't think that anyone could seriously have calculated an average.
and anyway, there are so many variables...what sort of elevator? What sort of building (a skyscraper in NY would have more people per ride than a small office building in Minnesota)?


...why would anyone even want to know this?

Well I can't give you a website but I can tell you about the elevator where I work. There is a plaque on it that says occupancy is 25 people OR 4000 lbs max weight. Most elevators give an either/or like that since not all people are the same size.

it would depend on where the elevator was located and how busy the place was. in a library the average could be 1. the empire state building could be 25
