Put it (female) in a bowl like the one you buy at the Mall with the plant, etc. she looked lonely to me, so I bought another female to keep her company, put it in the bowl, they were at each other for a while bumping, etc. they eventually calmed down, figured they were starting to get along. next morning the second fish was DEAD, does anyone think that the big fish killed her. The second one was very lively when I put her in the bowl, We can't figure out what happened. Does anyone maybe have an answer, I don't think I an going to put anoher one in there with her.

Betta's, even females can be very aggressive. I recently lost my male when the female jumped the tank divider and got on his side of the tank. She didn't get a single rip or lost scale but he had all his fins torn off.
The minimum requirements for a female Betta tank is about 10 gallons of water and no less then 3 females. This allows them to form a hierarchy and spread around the aggression so no one gets picked on. Any female tank should have lots of plants and hiding spaces. As I mentioned, this is a minimum set up and doesn't mean that injury or death couldn't occur. I recommend observing the fish closely in the first few days. An even better arrangement would be a 20 gallon long tank with about 5 females.

The larger female killed the smaller one. Your tank was to small for two fish. If you want a community tank, it needs to be at least a 2 1/2 to a 5 gal...no smaller, and it needs to have plants and rocks (not just the gravel) so that the smaller fish can hide.
Good idea not putting another fish in there!

well, beta, or japanese fighting fish, are quite ferocious, hence there name. never put two of the same gender in a bowl because they will go at each other until one is dead. however, you can put a male beta or a different type of fish in the bowl with her if you think she's lonely. best wishes!:)

Usually it's the Male Bettas that are very aggressive, however in small quarters a Female Betta can tend to become aggressive.

Agressiveness is a common attribute of Beta Fish. Of course, everyone knows you shouldn't mix opposite sexes but sometimes individual fish will be so aggressive that they cannot be mixed with members of the same sex, or with other fish at all.

the female beta fish killed the other one because two beta fish cant be put together or they will kill each other in order to impress the male and mate.

Beta are chinese fighting fish you do not put them together . They are extremely territorial and will fight to death.Usually they are in separate cups or bowls at the stores.

Usually females do not fight. Normally there should be a separater that can keep them apart. Maybe your two fish doesn't really get along anyway.

Females don't usually kill each other, but they will if they really don't like each other or don't have enough space. The second fish could've been sick.
