My family and I used to play rummy a lot. It helps if you have a deck of cards though. Or you could try chinese checkers or some other board game, if you have them.
Or you could go to a library: Those are usually free. If you guys are into sports, is there a chance you can get into the school's gym and shoot a few hoops?
Oh yes, speaking of the library: I don't know your circumstances, but perhaps you can pick up a few videos or DvDs?
Good luck!

I don't really know what's within walking distance of you, so I can't really tell you. But perhaps you could go to the local library, and browse for interesting books, or if you live on campus, you could hang out in a cafe or other area on campus and meet some new friends at the college. It'll give you some new contacts for the upcoming school year, and be a lot of fun for you too. :)
Have a good time!
