The problem is not the ball, but the little rods that the ball turns.
Take the ball out and look inside the opening. You will see trash lining the rods.Take something and carefully scrape them clean.
You should notice a big change almost immediately.

You need to clean the rollers that the ball turns, but don't scrape them! Just use Windex and a few Q-tips. And don't spray the Windex into the mouse, spray it directly onto the Q-tip. Actually, put the Q-tip over the hole where the Windex comes out, then spray it. In 5 minutes, your mouse will feel just like it did the day you bought it.

dip a q-tip in rubbing alchohol and swab down the rollers. counting on how often you do it, that ought to clean up the filth. usually, however, the filth has created a strip of crap around the curler thats too thick for the alchohol to decrease with the aid of, besides the undeniable fact that it is going to soften it. if that's the case, use a toothpick to enhance the strip off the curler. it takes some persistence cuz the curler will save spinning, yet once you artwork the toothpick left to suitable as adversarial to up and down the curler, you will get it.

I agree with Ted, buy an optical mouse. Optical technology improves tracking and accuracy of the mouse.

Buy an optical or wireless mouse. Mouse roller balls go bad and are outdated.

Remove the ball and wash it in a lukewarm soapy solution then rinse it well and dry it, that should work. Do not put alcohol or any solvent on it, that will cause the ball to deteriorate.
