I've just got off the phone with a close friend and now feel VERY angry!!
I run my own business and provided a service for her boyfriend which every-one enjoyed. I gave him the invoice and 3 weeks later I still hadn't been paid. He had my phone number, but never called me to explain why he wasn't paying.
I finally got his number and called him to find out where my money was, he said he'd drop it to my house the following morning. So I sat and waited 1and half hours the next morning, for him not to come; so I sent him a text message saying that I wanted the full price for the goods and that I should charge him for the time I sat waiting for him to come as I'm self-employed. I finally got the money 3 days later, a whole MONTH after he'd had his party!!
Here's the joke, my friend now calls me and says that I'm unprofessional for sending a text message like that, wishes she hadn't recommended me and I should've given a bigger discount!!
Do I still consider her a friend??

(((hugs hon))) that must have sucked. It's up to you whether or not you still consider her a friend but personally I believe that a true friend would understand that this is how you earn your living and not ***** at you about the discount. In general I would say sending a text is unprofessional but to a friend or friends boyfriend it's different.

well your friend is right about the text message if u want to be self employed should have kept it professional, and the funds should have been paid up front before anything had happened. Explain to your friend you are trying to run a business...but do this face to face not via text.

The text message was not very professional.
They say you should not mix business and pleasure and it seems to be true. Your friend and her boyfriend expected special treatment - and you probably would not have sent a text to any other late payer.
Just learn the lesson from it and move on.

If one of my friends did that to me,they would not be my friend anymore at the end of the day you did her boyfriend a favour and after waiting so long for your money she wanted a bigger discount?Tell your friend to lose herself and her number!

Thats what happens when you mix business with friendship and personal matters. It gets messy.
Ignore your friend, you was entitled to chase up the owning balance. Maybe next time do it through a professional letter with a proper warning.

No, that's really rotten. At the end of the day, you provided a service and he should have paid. Any friend worth his/her salt wouldn't have let her partner treat you in this way. Ditch them both and move on.

never ever ever mix friendship and business! She has no right and should have never put you int that position. the boyfriend had no professionalism by making you ask for the money twice. I would have done the same as you. Screw your friend! She is not worth it

I think that you need to sit down a talk to both of them and try to work things out if she is a really good friend>

It's a pretty dumb thing to lose a friend over if you ask me. Friends are important and you can't ditch someone beacuse they're boyfriend screwed up.
