Maybe, since the caledar is off by a couple of years it makes more since. I mean, Jesus was born a few years before the year 1. They got it wrong a long time ago, so the dates were wrong from the beginning.
I teach history and I never use the terms BCE or CE, I explain to students what they mean, further explain I'm too set in my ways to change and go on with BC and AD years. Really it doesn't matter much. I suppose if one isn't Christian it wouldn't make much since, but if one lives in a Christian country they ought to expect to live by the standards of the culture in which they live.

It's only our society's own stupidity that makes the Christian social institutions that have widespread application offensive. In turn the create something as equally stupid. What is the "common era"? It's nothing. We don't have it in "common" with non-Christian, or for that matter eastern Christian peoples. Does it mean the last two thousand years have been boring? People just need to grow up and realize that ALL cultures need to be recognized for what they are and given their just deserves. You want to call it CE rather than AD? Fine, I Like the name "Christian Era" just fine. It actually has some meaning maybe even more to modern society than the Latin AD. To me, and most everyone else whether they love it or hate it I'm sure, the idea of a Common Era would mean nothing.

I agree. Its humorous how human beings can locate words offensive, all human beings has the perfect to apply any language they want in any putting they want, inspite of how offensive it would desire to seem to be. as long as a individual would not act on there ideals or words (discrimination). A notice is a valid, if it doesnt sound magnificent properly BOO HOO, while you're an person you manage it. If somebody made a derogatory remark approximately my visual allure, religous theory etc.. Who cares, if its humorous unwell giggle. i'm unwell of political correctness. You cant describe a individual by ability of the colour of their skin, you will possibly desire to declare they're of afrocarribean beginning, or of angloeuropean descent. that's loopy.

considering that jesus has a rather tenuous historical validity, it's not so much rude (though BC and AD may be considered rude to those of other religions) as historically better grounded (though why we should begin a calendar, at all, with jesus is questionable, except for convenience to those who use the christian calendar).

In this case I agree, it is still separated by the birth of Jesus it is just hidden better. Besides, the majority of the children in today's schools have no idea what AD, BC, BCE, or CE mean anyway. Who pays attention that well in class anyway.

I've thought for a long time that PC has gotten out of hand. There is no way to phrase things in a way to avoid offending everyone. People should just chill.
