some thing that is low maintenance if it's his/hers 1st pet.... like a goldfish or a hampster... and something you wouldn't mind cleaning up after... once you know they are OK with that then you can move on to having a bunny, or a cat... or something along those lines!

is it your kid? If so you might want to consider that you will probly have 2 look after it. I would recommend somthing easy to look after. A rodent maybe? Hamster, Mouse ect. A fish is good for starters but incredibly boring. A dog is fun and sociable but they can live for a long time and are expensive. A cat is easier but still expensive. Reptiles are expensive and hard to keep and live a long time. Rabbits are good but hutches at the end of the garden is a bad idea consider a house rabbit. Guinia pigs are good for lap pets but some can be timid. Whatever you deside make sure the kid researchs the pet first and wants to get it do not buy one as a present. Good luck

Depending on the kids age.Under 4 get a fish.After that they can learn how to properly care for a pet if you teach them.Animal abuse happens too often when a child gets bit for hurting a pet.

Depending on the age of the child, something that the child can take care of themselves to show they are responsible. If they are real young a fish, teenage a bird, cat or dog but make sure that they can help take care of the animal and not leave the burden on the adults.

I small pet that can live in a cage. I have gerbils and they are active in the day. I also have hamsters,but they are only awake when I'm asleep. I'd go with a gerbil or two.

start off small like a hamster then once they have got used to looking after another creature get a dog they are the bestn pets you can get

1st pet for my son - 5yrs - a rat. so easy, so friendly. never nipped him. enjoy being handled. cage requires reguler cleaning but aside from that, great pets.
