what type of laser do you want to build, a solid state laser, a gas laser or a semi-conducting laser?

Here's a site that shows you how to build a nitrogen based laser. Just realize that building a laser is not some beginning science project and you really need to study up on it to understand the subject.

Building a laser from scratch takes an infinite amount of precision and patience. You can buy laser diodes and build your own but even they are "notoriously fussy" (per ref. 1). Also check out ref 1's link to the Sam Goldwasser laser info (ref. 2).

Bottom line do something else that interests you.
