very refreshing to not see a lot of FFVII in here. usually that takes up like 75%.
but i'd have to go with four (II US) because it was the second one i played, but it was the first one that i beat totally on my own. it also had a really good story, and you were also mandated classes to use to complete each part.
it was also so much larger than the first one, that it blew me away. i guess because this was my first great experience with an FF, it is my favorite.

My favorite final fantasy games are ff8(squall, zell and siefer were the F'in bomb) and ff9 for the storyline

I've only played VII-IX so my opinion's biased and cliched but I'd go with VII. Great storyline, loveable characters and plenty of subsequent stories that have come out recently. What's not to love?
