Hard drives permanently store information, they are not like brains at all.

Comparing computer internals to people:

* Hard Drives - are like writing notes to yourself information around till you throw it out. Also could be long term memory, but not as fast for retrieval.
* Floppy, Memory stick - also writing notes for long term
* Memory - Your short term memory where you get to think about things.
* CPU - How fast you think about things
* Keyboard, mouse, etc. - See, hear, taste, feel (info in)
* Monitor, Printer - speaking, writing, (information out)
* Virus - virus
* Phishing - getting drunk and telling people your ATM #
* Email - telephone call to someone

So if your computer is slow, it is because it takes longer to think about things. Get more memory first, then faster processor. No matter how fast your processor is, it won't compensate for lack of memory.

Best analogy is:

If you create a text document, that file and the info it contains, lives in the Random access memory ie RAM.

When you save that text file, it cant stay in RAM, so it needs a permanent home, and it gets saved to the harddrive, and leaves RAM.

Opening the file again takes a copy of the file, from the harddrive, and loads that copy into RAM so you can edit it.
