I can only be myself, to be anything else would be to live a lie....... but there is a price to pay to be true to oneself, don't ya think?

It's been a long journey and looking back I can see that I may have thought I was my own person, but that I had some learned behaviors that belied it.
Now, I realize that if we are not always learning more about ourselves we are stagnating. I realize that by occasionally accommodating those I love I am more the person I want to be.

I realize that as soon as I (figuratively) said , "Ah ha, this is really me", I wouldn't be open to new and exciting possibilities. So today, I am me, tomorrow me, even better!

Good question. I know I'm who I really am and am living my life as me. But I did come to the realization that a former friend (she gained the "ex-friend" title just the other day) tried her best to change me and make me believe that things were worse than they were. I have to admit that I fell for it a few times, but it got old after a while and I wised up to it.

She only felt okay with me as a friend when I was lower than her. When I say lower I mean sad, unhappy, frustrated, etc. because it all boiled down to jealousy. When I'm on top of the world - school's going well, my business is getting off the ground, I'm meeting new and exciting people, etc. - she feels threatened and can't control me. When I was down in the dumps it was easy for her to hold me down by her words, therefore making her feel better than me.

Now that I've realized it all she completely cut me out of her life. But it's okay because I like who I am and what I'm interested in. I have higher self-esteem and I have self-respect - all things she lacks. Yep...jealously with a capital "J".
