I've lived in a few states and I can say only about where I've been. When you deal with your own bank the ATM machine use is free. And because there are several banks around with the same name as your bank then those ATM machines should be free too. Check it out.

Usually no ATM's are free unless you are using your banks ATM.

For example....if you bank with National City all of their ATMs throughout the country are free to you. If you use another ATM whether it be another bank or a generic ATM it usually costs anywhere from $1-$3 dollars.

In addition to the previous answer the fee will always be applied by the other bank and sometimes by your own when using someone else's ATM.
