I have been sick this summer. I first had my gallbladder out about two months ago and then shortly after that, I was diagnosed with viral meningitis. I have noticed that for the last few weeks that there is a lot more hair in the shower drain when I am done showering and when I run my fingers through it wet, quite a bit comes out. Should I be concerned?

Since you said that you had your gallbladder out it seems to me that you could have an adverse reaction to the anesthesia which in alot of patients tends to make them lose their hair. Alot of medications in your system can cause a shock to your body including hair follicles. I just went into remission for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and even before the chemo I had alot of problems with losing my hair not alot but more then usual in the tub. I talked to my doc and he stated that it is in the medication and that once it was all out of my system it would begin to resolve itself. He and I suggest that you drink alot of fluid especially water to flush your system and eat foods with high water volume so that you will be able to purify your body of all the toxins and medication still in there. Good Luck! If you need anything IM me.

Maybe. Read on..There is also a disease that causes your immune system to attack your hair follicles and cause your hair to fall out. Seek medical advice on this. Could be a rare condition.
You may not have the full blown disease of course. Good luck.
God bless

It could be the illness or even the stress caused by the illness. In any case, you should go to a dermathologist, they'll probably make you take a blood test to see what's wrong. But don't worry too much about it.

Trauma to the body can cause the hair to fall out. You should see your doctor to rule out an autoimmune disorder like alopecia or many others that can cause hair to fall out.

(by the way, don't listen to that person who said it might be cancer. Cancer doesn't cause your hair to fall out, chemotherapy does...and you would know it if you had chemo.)

Can be.
As a last resource your body takes strenght from the hair.
Eat healthy, sleep well. Take vitamin B complex, take iron and relax and recover from all operations and illnesses.
Be positive.
