If you're sure the monitor is plugged into the graphics card on the back of the computer, and that there's also a power lead connected to the monitor, Paultech's probably right. You'll simply need to take the side off the case and push the graphics card firmly into the slot that it's presently in. Make sure the computer's switched off first though.

GARY C. also has a valid point. Those pins, in the end of the lead from the monitor, that plugs into the graphics card are fragile little creatures ... so easily bent.

Make sure the monitor is plugged in properly and has power - a little light comes on. If that doesn't fix it. You maybe loosened the video card when you moved it. get the case apart. The video card plugs in to the mainboard - you can tell which one it is - it's the one the monitor is plugged in to. Unplug the monitor. take out the retaining screw on the card - pull it out. Put it back in and make sure it goes right in and replace the retaining screw. Plug the monitor in and see if it works. If not. The monitor has had it or the card. A new card you can get cheap from Maplin. A new Monitor - just over £100 for a nice flat screen from Aria. People who are buying flat screens are dumping CRT monitors down the tip - so if it's the monitor and it's like your dad past it's sell by date. Ask around - you'll get one for free. Or look in the computer column of you local paper at the classifieds - £10 is a reasonable price for a CRT monitor.

Check the small pins in the plugs on the end of the monitor lead, these can bend very very easily and cause the problem you are experiencing. If so you can sometimes straighten them. Failing this then possibly the monitor has failed or the card come loose, of failed.
Hope it is something simple and good luck.

The monitor is not plugged into the PC properly, check the signal cable from the back of the monitor and that it should be plugged into the 15-pin socket on the back of his PC.
