Who on earth told you that? If it wasn't a trained health professional -- and no that doesn't include a nurse's aid or the hospital janitor -- ignore them completely,
A sick baby needs to eat for comfort and to protect his stomach from the antibiotics. If he throws up, who cares? He will still get some fluids from the milk and prevent dehydration which is a danger during any kind of fever or infection.
The worst thing you can do for a sick baby is deny them what they want and what they are used to. It teaches them that they can't trust their parents!
Also, a quick tip, to prevent further ear infections, lightly massage behind the baby's ears every day while you are washing or feeding him. It really does help.

My sister says she never gives her kids formula or milk when they have a fever, because then they will throw up sour milk. Don't know why this happens, but since your doctor told you not to give him formula, I'd say don't do it. Doesn't sound like a fun thing to clean up!

remove the fever and observe the infant, please don't give baby shower, use ice water and just through him in, you can actually make a game out of it, we call it throwing the baby into a bucet of ice water, when you get better you can reduce the size of the receptticle.
