Do domain names have any protection away from the net? for example, in newspapers ,magazines or mailshots

To begin with, a domain name is simply a name stored in the domain name database that is used to direct people to your actual site! The ONLY reason to even purchase one is to make your site easier to find by others! If you wasted money on a domain name for a site you dont want made public then cancel it! The domain name is yours until you stop paying for it and no one else can take this name. As far as people posting it, consider it as publicity!

You mean, like, copyright protection? I don't believe so.

Or... did you mean some sort of security protection? If you did, then that doesn't make sense.

So I don't really understand, but hopefully my first sentence answered your question :P
