if you dont pay the hire purchase on a car there are a few things that can happen but they all lead to the same thing...you get letters from the company,,then you probably get a court order...you get a visit from the bailiffs.(not to be messed with)..if you cant pay the hp on the car then ask them to take the car back before you get to any of the above actions..no matter what you will have the car taken from you and if the car sells less than you owe then you will be forced to pay the shortfall

A lot depends on how much term is left on the hire purchase but usually the car company will send someone to re-possess the car and you will still be taken to court for the amount owing plus court costs. If your having problems with your payments call the car company and they will probably be able to come to some sort of an alternative payment arrangement with you. They will gladly work with you as opposed to taking matters to court.

The HP company will send a couple of heavies around to get you to change your mind. I know it happened to me in Jo'burg in 2000.

If you do not want to pay, you have to run away without leaving a forwarding address, change your name and live like an illegal immigrant.

they'll repossess your car, if the value of the car doesn't pay off your debt they'll come after you for the remaining balance, and it'll ruin your credit history.
