Detroit, all they do is pay for the best players. Hopefully things will start changing though with their ageing team and the salary cap.

The Boston Bruins have always been a "cheap" team when it comes time to renew contracts. Toronto Maple Laughs are without a doubt the most hated team in ice hockey, and I don't understand why, they haven't had a winning season since like the 1960's and pose no threat to any team in the NHL.
I have heard that Detroit used to f guys over back in the 50s, but lately they've been pretty fair. I hope your not still upset about the Gordie Howe thing, or them trading Ted Lindsay to the Hawks cause he wanted to start a union?

I would define cheap as an unwillingness to spend money and the wings are one of the biggest spenders (and by the way, the wings didn't buy datsyuk and zetterberg). Chicago is the cheapest team, thier GM could care less if they win or lose. And detroit is possibly the most popular team in the NHL. How can you say they are the most hated?

Detroit. New York. Toronto. They used to buy the best talents now they can't do it since the new CBA. Don't like these teams especially Detroit.

What do you mean by cheapest team. If you mean a team that isnt a big marketing team, detroit doesnt fit in that category.
I say Pittsburgh

Cheapest money wise is Pittsburgh, even though I hate to say that. I can't believe only one other person said that.
Makes me feel good to know that Pittsburgh is not the most hated team :)

I think you are in the monority. There are thousands of Blackhawk fans who can say that about their team before anyone can claim that the Red Wings are the cheapest. The Wings spend more than my Flyers.

the cheapest team is the one with the richest owners spending the fewest amount of money on everything. i do mean everything besides just the players. i have no insight to give you an educated opinion on the cheapest.
