I am 29 weeks pregnant. My doctor sent me to get some labs done because my blood pressure was crazy. Well one of the tests is a 24 hour urine sample. so i have to pee in a jug for a whole day! One of my friends told me that this was because he is checking for fluids. I guess amniotic fluids? Why would this be and do you know what it could be for?

You doctor is probably checking for protein and a 24 hour urine is the best way to measure this. Many pregnant women are at risk for pre eclampsia and symptoms include protein in urine and high blood pressure.

Pheochromocytoma is probably not the reason your doctor is checking your urine unless your blood pressure is really really high. Pheo... is really rare.

This exact thing happened to me...although i cant recall the EXACT reason the test needed to be done I do know that it is not worrisome....and it has nothing to do with the amniotic fluid.

your doctor is looking for a condition called pheochromocytoma. They will look for certain chemicals in the urine, you can try to search this term on webmd.com or mayoclinic.com, all the best
