Well it depends. Mount Everest is the highest peak of the planet considering its altitude from the sea level (8848m). However, Mauna Kea volcano, located in Hawaii, is the tallest mountain, if it is measured from its base (total 10203m, but only 4205m above sea level).

the TALLEST in terms of elevation above sea level would be Mount Everest, in the Himalayas
in terms of elevation above its base, Mauna Kea, one peak on the Hawaiian Islands, is the tallest
in terms of volume, i am unsure, but Mauna Kea should also be a contender in that category
