HEEES BAAAAAACKKK! Jerry's back to make his bit-as-all-outdoors ego-venting that is the Muscular Dystrophy telethon Sunday night. I want to know who of you folks out there actually get into watching the telethon over the years,
with the endless phone-number scrolling on the bottom of the screen, Ed McMahon announcing the revised toteboard
in his best "Hi-Ho" stentorion voice, Norm Crosby telling really bad pronunciation-gaffe jokes that were first heard in the catskills in the 40's, a 5-minute guilt inducing video
every hour to keep the money rolling in, a totally obnoxious
MD kids who thinks he's the next Jay Leno hogging the stage, and the beloved has-beens we only see on this
telethon annually, like Maureen Mcgovern, Charo, Louie Anderson, Ann Margeret, Ed Asner, Justine Bateman, Pat
Boone, Wilford Brimly, Dr, Joyce Brothers(no folks, she's
not dead yeat), Geln Campbell, Irene Cara(a fame has-been), Gary Collins(that creepy guy from the ESP-episodes of Night Gallery), etc.

I did most of the fund raising years ago in 3 states. I worked for them for several years as a volunteer. I went to the camps to help out and even baby sat some of the kids in their home so the parents could do simple things like grocery shop.

Even though it isn't your cup of tea and you think the show doesn't warrant our attention, they do a lot of good things with the money. Like provide medical attention to those who cannot afford it. Send kids to special camps because they can't go any where else. They get a lot of money for research and have helped ease a lot of children's pain.

I once baby sat a 17 year old who was in a hospital bed and was no longer able to breath on his own. Imagine my heartbreak when the power company cut the power to his house and he died because mom couldn't work and leave him alone and dad ran off not long after he was diagnosed.
Thanks to M.D.A. and Jerry Lewis, that can't happen any more.

No I don't watch the telethon any more but I still donate and I appreciate the job they do.
