When he arrives, he checks into the hotel. After he arranges his clothes for the next day,he decides to turn in. He notices that the only light switch in the room is near the door, and that the bed is on the opposite side of the room. He manages, however, to turn off the light switch and make it comfortably into bed before the room gets dark. How is this possible?

Because it is still light outside.

Having travelled west, local time will be earlier than the time according to travellers own body clock, If he had travelled from the UK to New York for example his body clock would be 5 hours ahead of local time. Midnight for him would only be 7 pm local time.
