Depends on who you are, where you live and what animal you are killing.

Most people can legally kill rats and mice and snakes and insects - as long as they aren't torturing them. DON'T use those sticky glue traps - it's barbaric to let any animal suffer for days until it finally dies of thirst.

Hunters and fishermen can kill most types of game animals in season. People who own farms and work in slaughterhouses can kill animals for food. Pets can be humanely euthanized by a veterinarian. If you are being attacked by a vicious dog or a human criminal, you can kill it in self-defense. Police officers are authorized to kill anything that might be a danger to the public - if there is no time to call animal control. They have shot dogs, raccoons, rampaging circus elephants, bears and probably every other thing that walks or crawls.

yes and no. Some wild animals are restricted to legal hunting seasons, outside of which you cannot kill them (deer, moose, bear, etc.) Killing a domestic animal (cat/dog/cow/horse/hamster/fish) by someone other than the owner or a person authorized by the owner or the state is considered malicious destruction of property. The method of killing also determines the legality of the act. Humane slaughter for food in keeping with the USDA guidelines and euthanasia are both legal, but torture, malicious neglect. etc. is considered felony animal cruelty.

If you're talking about capping the neighbors cockapoo or their cat then NO, if you mean hunting without a license or out of season then NO. If you are talking about hunting a game animal within the prescribed season with the correct method and by a licensed hunter then YES. If you are talking about an animal that is threatening you yes. I could go on but I hope you get the jist of the answer...

most animals NO. Thank god. but if the animal is a pest/depending where you live, like coyotes or something then it can be legal. I live on farms and they like to kill our baby animals and it is legal to shoot them if the need be. Ask your local police dept. They know all the laws. But keep in mind, there are animal lovers out there, such as myself, that are working on trying to pass laws on animal cruelty. It could soon be a felony.

I'm not sure there is a law against just shooting & killing a dog that is on your property, but there are laws against abusing & neglecting a animal & abuse &/or neglect that results in suffering & death. Of coarse the punishment never fits the crime. This world is full of cruel people & our government system may not punish accordingly but what goes around comes around.Take Care.

Yes, if it's done in a humane manner. I've seen many horses put down because of horrible accidents, but then I've heard of a few owners that put their horses down because they were getting older and they didn't want to find a good home for them, or pay for them any longer.

It's also legal for humane societies to put down animals that are dangerous or incurably sick, but they also end up putting down animals that they can't find homes for too.

Sad, but true.

You have to have a license, and the license specifically indicates which animals you can kill (hunting, fishing, slaughterhouses). There are some animals for which licenses are not available.

Maybe. Depends on the animal, where you are and how you do it. For example during deer hunting season you can kill deer, but only with certain weapons and in certain places.

It depends on the circumstances. If a bear is charging me in the woods and I have a rifle there is going to be a dead bear. I know enough to stay far away from the bear in the first place, but there are circumstances where it is justifiable.

if it is done in a cruel or grotesque way, it is a felony, but say if you kill any animal like a cow or goat or deer for FOOD, then no. but if you kill them cuz you're insane in the brain, then it's cruelty.
