After 2 weeks in France the flies and mosquitoes squashed on the front of my car are baked hard. I've pressure washed, scrubbed and polished but to avail!

Well, a predicament I have encountered many a time in the Mid-East. I took on board the marvellous advice that if you rub an old newspaper sheet over the thing before setting off, it creates a clear protective film from the newsprint. This then makes it easy to wipe off all the bugs later. However, have you tried a bit of
T-Cut afterwards on bodywork, and good old Domestos on the windscreen. Left for a while, it seems to release the offending items. Woth a try, and no harm done to the vehicle.

I have the answer! Warm water and fabric softener / dryer sheets. Use the sheets like a rag and soak the carcasses for a minute or so, then wipe clean. We have a severe problem in the deep south (USA) twice a year with flying 'love bugs'. The damn things are so thick sometimes they will clog radiators. Trust me, the fabric sheets will all but disolve the bugs and will not hurt the finish of your car.

Baked on bugs are tough. Most auto parts stores sell special bug and tar removers. I've linked to a few examples.

I use a 3.5 horsepower petrol driven angle grinder. Works every time. Overuse can affect the lustre on some metallic finishes I've heard.

You can go to Halfords and buy a foam spray. I can't remember the name of it but it comes in an aerosol can - probably called something like "bugs be gone" :-)
