Electrical ? Trash compactor and garbage disposal both plug into dual receptical under sink - operated by switch above sink on wall. How can I operate trash compactor without turning on disposal?

If power was run to receptacle first and then a switch loop was run for the disposal, it is as simple as breaking tab on hot side of receptacle to make half hot all the time and other half switch controlled. If this isn,t the case then other wires may have to be run.Without seeing what is in the receptacle box and switch box I can't tell you accurately what should be done. In any case it doesn,t seem like you are familiar with basic wiring so you are better off having a professional do it. Good luck

You will need to split the circuit at the switch and at the plug. The plug has a jumper that feeds the bottom half of the plug. You will have to break that jumper then run a hot wire to the bottom half from another switch added besid your existing switch

Get an electrician in, if you need to ask here then any electrical work you do your self may go very badly wrong
