Make up some professional goals and write about them. If you say in your letter that you don't know your goals yet, you will surely not get accepted. Make them up and make sure your entire letter centers around them. As far as something special and unique about you, is there anything special you have done in your life? Like if you have volunteered, if you travelled somewhere foreign, if you are of a specific heritage, etc. Pick anything at all that makes you you. I know it's hard but remember to make sure this essay is pinpointed to one specific reason why you are going to college in the first place! The people reading the letter want to know why you even want to go to their college (don't say because you don't have anything better to do after highschool). Make up some goals you think you might want to pursue after college and tailor them to your essay. As far as making the letter stand out, college entrance boards are impressed with young people with very specific goals (remember to make up some you think you may enjoy in the future) and very specific reasons why they have these particular goals. In addition, if you have encountered any adversity at all (poverty at some point, family hardship of any kind, moving somewhere different) it helps to note this (very briefly of course so as not to sound like if you are wanting pity) so they can see that you can handle hardship and still do what's right and get good grades and apply to college. Good luck!

You are describing a personal essay / application statement, NOT a letter of recommendation. Other people write letters of recommendation for you.

In your application statement / personal essay, you should write about something that is NOT on your transcript, or anywhere else on your application. The best essays I have seen usually identify and describe a moment or series of events that transformed the student's life, and taught the student something important about him/herself. These essays then show how whatever was learned will serve that student in achieving his or her goals.
