Set it on the side of the dumpster with the hopes someone else can use it. Once someone else touches it, it's out of your hands.

Breaking mirrors, black cats, walking under a ladder, spilling salt - these are all supersitions that hold no real power over anyone.

But if you throw the mirror away unbroken and it gets broken later you wouldn't be responsible anyway.

You should consider however that anytime you throw mirrors or glass or razor blades away you should make sure no one gets cut on them or you may bring "bad luck" to the garbage men or someone digging through the trash.

Tape the edges of a mirror and put a couple of pieces of strong tape like duct tape across it in an "X" shape on both sides before discarding. Also, be sure you put any broken pieces in a box and label it broken glass before discarding it for the sake of those that will pick it up from the trash bin.

I've includes a link to the origins of some superstitions below:

If it's not already broken, why do you want to throw it away?

If it's just really ugly or it belonged to your ex or something, throw it away and the guy who hauls away the dumpster will probably get seven years bad luck. If he's a trashman, I doubt if he'll notice the difference anyways.

If you know any really rotten kids, invite them over and set the mirror up against the wall and say, "Hey, you kids! Don't break this mirror! I mean it, dammit!"

That should take care of it.

The broken mirror giving 7 years bad luck is a superstition and is not true.

I don't know how the superstition goes but to me it seems that the mirror will only give you bad luck if it breaks so to prevent it you should cover the mirror with heavy duty tape. That shold hold the mirror together and prevent it to crack into gazillion pieces.

Just chuck it on the top of the garbage and the dude that takes it away will carry it under a ladder and chuck it into the truck, then the truck will break it and not u so you aren't really braeking it.

Plus superstitions are for idiots
