not elbow pads. im talking about the small "tube-like" wrap that players wear just above the elbow and below the tricep. theres no way it can offer any protection against injury from falling so it must serve some other purpose.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Repetitive Stress. They turn their elbows when they do the stance on the line. It's cool. One guy had one, and then they all had to. It's like the 'cage' helmets - or the neck roll shoulder pads.

They help protect elbows when a player goes down. Artificial surfaces are very hard on elbows, knees, etc., but even grass can be painful.
