It's simply easier to make boxes that way when they're using flat or corrugated cardboard. It's possible to create quasi-round boxes, but the best they'll be able to create is a polygonal box, either hexagonal or octagonal. Any more sides than that and the box designers would have to custom-design their boxes--which eventually translates into more production time and greater production expense.
Of course, it would be theoretically possible to deliver pizzas in round *plastic* containers, but I think they'd wouldn't be quite as effective at keeping the pizza warm. Besides, I would imagine cardboard is easier to recycle.

Square boxes are less labor intensive than round boxes. Why waste time and effort shaping the box, when it will only drive up the price. How's that for pragmatic?
