I heard him talking sh** on Sky Sports News once about the World Cup incident with Portugal. I think he is still really mad at C. Ronaldo which is really childish. He has no right to wish things like that on a team he should really get over it! Sheesh!

1) People get a little carried away in the heat of sport, so they say things they wouldn't if their head were clearer.
2) The competition between ManU & Liverpool is tight this year, so Gerrard is trying to motivate himself and his teammates.
3) Professional footballers as a generality aren't the brightest folks around, making it more likely that they would say regrettable things. I don't know if this applies to Gerrard, but it might.

Gerrard said that he meant no offense to the fans of Man Utd, and that the headline was taken out of context by the newspaper that is serializing his book.He was referring to when he takes the pitch against Man Utd and how it is not just a football match but a war due to the history and rivalry between the two sides.
