there is a high percentage of spanish speaking people living in America so learning spanish can help you when you work. For example if you came across a spanish speaking person and he/she wanted to buy your product but didn't know how to speak your language you wouldn't be able to sell the product to that person. They do speak our language. they probably aren't that fluent in english and plus it isn't a bad decision to learn something new. Learning a new language benefits you. If you need a job and another person wants the same job and you both have the same experience, you will probably got the job because you know spanish.

It's called expanding your mind. In most European countries, people learn several different languages, including English. Are you one of those stupid Americans who goes to another country and gets mad if the people don't speak English?? Adios...

Because it means you can travel. You can go to Latin America especially, which would be good in a gap year, to do something exciting like that! You can go on holiday to Spain, and not expect them to all speak english to you. Also, apparently employers find you more employable if you have a skill in a language.... So you're more likely to get a job...? Is that enough reasons?!

i recently could not get a job because they were only hiring bilingual people. i was quite upset that spanish was more important than english, but many people here speak it and that is just a fact of life. businesses are catering to it. even if the illegals of 20 years ago can't find work, their US born spanish speaking children are set for life.
