You could say it is and put up a strong argument about it but at the end of the day they put themselves on there they arent forced. It is mainly to get on tv for some of them. The x factor team try their best to let them down gently, Sharon does anyway. Simon is just honest and different people react to things in different ways. Some one could get really annoyed by Sharon if she doesn't say it straight to their face yet other people get annoyed at Simon 'cos he tells them what he thinks. The go their to get judged. To prove they are good enough for the rest of the world. It isnt fair to blame the judges if they dont like what they see. Some people are happy knowing what they need to work on or abandoning the dream but others make a great big fuss about it and that's when they get laughed at. It is who ever has heard them sing fault as they should be honest and truthful enough to tell them either straight to their face or let them down softly. Sometimes the show can be a bit nasty when they deliberately pick out a persons weakness. but we all laugh at it so it's partly our fault as well.
People go on there to get judged. The show is just an interview that everyone can look into. Hope that helped.

It most certainly is.
But in it's defense, I must add that part of the problem is that many people who enter who are completely awful are often deluded as to their actual talent. So they are really setting themselves for humiliation when they are rejected.
But to answer the question, many aspects are very cruel.
First is the voting show format of the show. The actual wait for votes puts a massive amount of pressure on the contestants. Similarly, a really talented band could lose out if the people voting do not like their act. There is also a massive amount of bias within these voting systems, as the general viewer is normally female and around the teenage or twenties mark, and so the chances that they will vote for either female, young contestants.
The biases of the three judges can also be very unfair. People like Simon Cowell work in the industry and so are likely to go for those acts who fit their 'image' of a good pop star- for girls, stick thin, blonde and average singing talent. for boys- being a 'pin-up' , being able to do pointless dance routines.... The judges at the end of the day have to choose those contestants they think will sell records. So they are biased no matter what.
Similarly, there is massive pressure upon contestants to give good live performances on the show. A good act may have a bad session on the show and get a bad resultin the vote as a result
I personally hate such shows simply because they create false hopes and 'instant' false stars.

Its a pathetic show for pathetic people to watch. You have 3 idiots talking c r a p to idiots who can't sing and have no hope. The female is only a singers wife who is now portrayed as someone who knows about music. I would rather spend my time being spit roasted.

You need to be cruel as some people have delusions that they can sing and obviously cannot.
