My furnace kicked on today for the first time this season. It worked at the end of last season, but now it is blowing only cold air. I replaced the thermostat (meant to do this anyway) and still no heat. I pulled the service panel off and the LED is blinking 3 times.

I have two other furnaces in my home and the other two are working fine. Do I have to make a service call or is there anything else I can do?

Your best bet is to make a service call, messing with something you no nothing about can be dangerous.

Look at the panel and there should be a status code that will tell you what the blinks mean. If this is gas, is the gas valve on, is the pilot lit? if so, and you can't find a key to the blinking then turn the furnace off at the service switch and back on, it may just need to be reset. Anything beyond that I would leave to the professionals.

I am assuming you have a hot air furnace. is it oil, gas or electric? One has to know this B4 troubleshooting. If electric maybe the heater coil is shot or tripped. If gas or oil, is pump running? if yes, is it trying to fire?
if pump not running, pump may be tripped.
if its trying to fire(can you see or smell gas or oil being shot into furnace? If oil, it may be trying to start by lost its prime and tries to start and shuts down. It may need priming. it also if oil may have a vacuum leak which will also cause this to shut down. ( you need a gauge to check this) so you see many things can cause this, and these are only the basics

is the piolet light still lit? there should be a panel on the furnace that tells you what the lights flashing means...i know mine at home does and if i was there i would tell you what it means on mine.
