Yes we must use shielding. It is a psychological technique where you imagine you are surrounded by a light or energy field that is your own and other people's energy cannot penetrate unless you wish it to do so. That's the best I can describe. Without this we would go mad.

Given that everything in the universe is made up of energy in one form or another, "shielding" helps to stop something negative from becoming attached to you. It also sends back the energy to the person throwing it.
A very simple technique is surrounding yourself in white light or if you are very concerned that something horrible will come your way, triple mirroring works best.
In triple mirroring, you visualize mirrors surrounding your body from head to toe with the mirrors facing "outward." The reflective surface points out towards the world, not in, towards you. You layer the mirrors three times around your body - thus triple mirroring.
Another way of doing it is visualizing the mirror being liquid. Did you see the original "Matrix?" If you did, there is the scene where Neo takes the pill that will release him from the matrix. When that happens, the mirror he is looking into becomes liquid and starts moving up his hand - covering it and his arm. Again. The reflective surface is facing outward.
Doing this either way - visualizing mirrors going around your body three times, or the liquid mirror effect from the Matrix - will not only shield you from negative energy but it will "reflect" it back on the person or thing sending it your way.

Cast a circle, consecrate and cleanse with sea-salted water and incense, call the quarters (be they Elementals or Sons of Horus) for protection. All work should be done inside a consecrated circle or temple.

I use shielding to an extent that is guards me from the devil and his corruption of my abilities to use for everything I do in my life that I use my mental abilities for, mainly to know what my enemy and what I can do about it in how to live my life and not get into much trouble. Mainly to know other people's thoughts and what they are going to do to me to make my life holy hell. The shield I use is my faith and obedience to God and the words and the way of life that is taught in the Holy Bible.

Yes. My aura has fiery edges which helps prevent anything from getting through. I also have two very protective guides. And on top of that, I use roses. It may be one very large one, or I might have several in place. Either way, they're covered in thorns.
