I have my lip pierced and small tunnels, black hair with a bright red fringe which is usually pulled into a quiff. I do often get some dirty looks but most people are generally curious and can't help but stare, even though I find it quite rude. I would prefer people to ask questions about my tattoo's rather than just point or stare but unfortunately that is not human nature.
I like the way I look and that is all that matters to me.
People should not be treated differently because of the way they choose to dress or present themselves. I am fortunate enough to work in a corporate position where they don't mind how i look. All that matters to them is that I can do my job and do it well.
It really saddens me that in this day and age where there are bigger issues to worry about that people still criticise others for their looks.
Be proud of yourself and be proud that you like the way you look.

As a business owner
I might hire you for like the back office stuff
but if a more clean cut type comes asking for the job
they would get it first....
Yes I know that's unfair Yes I too feel you have a right to do to your body whatever you want
But!!!
business is business and one bad first impression can cost you a make or break contract...
Professionals want to deal with other professionals
and a big part of that is professional appearance!
No I'm not ragging on you...just telling it like it is...

No most definitely not! I know it's hard but don't take any notice of other people, as long as you're happy with your appearance that's all that matters. All though it's been said before, if everybody looked the same then the world would be boring. Be proud you're showing your identity in a unique style!

No, they shouldn't get treated differently - but that doesn't mean they WON'T. People judge other people by first impressions, which are often based on the way they look - it's human nature. On a side note, I got to kiss someone with a lip ring once, and it have to say, it was HOT.

Oh yes. People are treated very differently based solely on their appearance...however, just because it happens does not make it right. Do what makes you happy, and if people give you weird looks, just smile at them and walk on with confidence in the fact that you know who you are and you love yourself for it! I personally feel sorry for those that judge before getting to know who someone really is...they will miss out on knowing a lot of wonderful people in life!

Here is what is so funny...People like you THINK they are being individuals yet you are just copying some other low life loser out there...Good luck in the real world and trying to get a good paying job looking like a freak.

Speaking for myself, approx. 89-90's I (woman) went to tatoo parlour, just to drive my friend (guy), and ended up coming out 5 hours later, 350$ poorer and an arm with roses, a boa constrictor, one skull and clouds surroundingn the whole tatoo-I was proud of my beauty of a tattoo (regretting big, big, big now i my choice of taste-I got those scenes so I could have matcing tattoos with my boyfriend, at his begging request BTW,HE did pay, so HE came out over $700- poorer after we left)so I proudly wore sleeveless shirts, cut sleeves off my old rock-n-roll t-shirts and before buying into business partnership with my b/friend, we had to go to many conventions in all different areas of Europe-Well, people not only stared at me, but made it loud and clear for me to hear: parents telling their kids not to go near THAT GIRL, I don't want you to even go near their desks. In general public, suh as waiting in line to pay for groceries, people would even move tills. And forget about trying to go and have a peaceful meal in a restaurant, whether Burger King, or a tea at The Waldorf Astoria in Manhatten-EVERYBODY stared, commented, shunned me, and I got rebellious and purposely made my tat shown at all times, and found great pleasure in seeing the reactions when I passed Sunday school end, and I'd walk by-I went to church-The judgemental people who never even knew ME (inside) basically caused me to change my attitude drastically-Think back to that time (IF you can), there were NOT many girls with tattoos-I regret it all now, the rebel stage as well. I say go for whatever you want, and remember it is impossible for everyone in the world to like you-I couldnt realize that for a while over 15 years ago, and if someone shuns you, it's their loss"

It's more anti social not to look goth/punk etc these days.
I used to stand out like a sore thumb two years ago, but now I just look like everyone else (accept a bit older).
Hoodies are now being worn by little thugs wear as we have worn them for years without any problems.
It's societys' problem not yours - just smile at them, that'll scare them.....lol :-)
