An oil change is only necessary at say, the 40'000 km or 20'000 km milaage point.
Yes its necessary if you'd want to keep your engine in good condition, and for your fuel tank.
As you did not state whether you meant engine oil or fuel, i'd just briefly explain both.
Engine oil
You pour engine oil into a sump called your oil sump, where ur dipsticks measures from there. The engine requires this oil as a lubricant so that it can run smoothly. However, if the oil is either insufficent, or too long, which will make it sludge, you will be grinding metal soon.
Fuel tank
At the above stated mentioned milage, its better to have your fuel tank emptied, and flushed out, as fuel which has been sitting too long in your tank will form sludge. If its not too serious, your would experience accleration problems, and wrong fuel indicator readings, if its serious, good luck starting the engine.

VVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!! The pistons (engine) need the lubrication that the oil provides. The oil eventually wears down and doesnt lubricate good anymore and needs to be changed. Your car might run for a long while (maybe a year on average use) but the pistons will eventually no longer work and you will have to change out the entire engine to make the car work again.

Yes its very important and should be done a minimum of every 3000 miles if not sooner. The oil keeps your engines parts slick so that there is less friction. When oil gets old or looses its viscosity then it doesn't do its job anymore and your engines parts will heat up and sieze. which means new car ...:)

THE THICKNESS ( VISCOSITY ) OF THE OIL KEEPS THE METAL PARTS COOL AND RUNNING SMOOTHLY. IF AND WHEN THE VISCOSITY IN THE OIL GETS THIN BY CONSTANT USAGE, ESPECIALLY UNDER HIGH VELOCITY, THE METAL PARTS START TO RUB TOGETHER, METAL AGAINST METAL. THIS CAUSES FRICTION, FRICTION CAUSES HEAT, HEAT WILL BURN YOUR ENGINE UP. ENGINE RUNNING PRODUCES CARBON BUILDUP IN THE MOTOR, THE OIL FILTER GETS SOME OF THIS. THE REST STAYS IN THE ENGINE. IT AFFECTS THE PISTONS, VALVES, RINGS, AND THE HEADBLOCK. NORMAL CHANGE SHOULD BE EVERY 6 MONTHS, OR EVERY 3,000 MILES. KEEP A RECORD. ALWAYS CHANGE THE OIL FILTER WHEN YOU CHANGE THE OIL. CKECK YOUR AIR FILTER NOW AND THEN. YOUR CAR ENGINE WILL LAST A LOT LONGER DOING THIS.

Yes it is. One of the most important things you can do to make your engine last is change the oil and filter every 3000 miles. If you don't metal contaminents can score your bearing and piston walls, causing burning and excess oil use.

the oil is like the blood of the car and if its not clean and good it can mess up everything in the car does like a chain reaction and the metal of some parts will get on the oil and it the oild will mess up everything just like our body if our blood aint clean the body starts to shut down completely and you dont want that to happen to ya car

The oil wil break down and will not be as effective. Sludge will build up in the engine and become a major mess. and when the oil reaches a certian point it will begin letting friction destroy the engine.

Extremely important-It affects the overall wear and tear on your car, and can affect your gas mileage. Also if you run out of oil your engine locks up.

I can only tell you that I was always told that routine oil changes are one of the main things to do in preventive maintenance.

Yes it is important to have it done every 3000 miles unless you want to pay 2-3000$ for a new engine
