Are you looking for global, international, national, corperate or personal savings? All are different and have a role to play.
There are huge things that are simple and we can do personally, and if enough do take care of the environment, the governments and corperations will follow the market trend.
Some suggestions:
1. Don't use plastic carrier bags. Instead get bags for life or cloth bags. If you really want to save energy, make shopping bags from outgrown, out of fashion clothing, old sheets etc.
2. Switch off the lights when you leave the room.
3. Don't leave the standby buttons on your appliances (you know the little red light on the tv when it's turned off). Turn these appliances off properly at night and when there is no one in the house.
4. Use terry nappies rather than disposables.
5. Use cloth sanitary products rather than disposables (see links) Not only are these good for the environment and you, they look really cool!

6. Use long life light bulbs
7. Use recycled paper for school work and recycled toilet paper.
8. Encorage places you visit to have recycling bins (zoos, parks, schools, hotels, airports etc)
9. Buy local produce so that the food doesn't have to be transported far, saving petrol and airfuel.
10. rather than commuting in petrol driven vehicle, explore the possibilities of electric powered moped.
11. Walk when possible
12. In the winter, after you have had a bath, leave the water to cool before pulling the plug (you'd be amazed how much heat we pour down the drain)
13. Buy second hand clothes from charity shops, mates etc.
14. only boil enough water in the kettle that you need.
15. Look at fitting your own small windmill/electric generator to your house, school, workplace.
OK, I've racked my brains for half an hour. Hope this helps.
All the best

Your right it is really hard because America does about everything that can be done to limit pollution here to our own determinate. Anything we do now is of so little impact. Just look outside at the blue Sky above you.
However, Look up "Asian Brown cloud", it is about the permanent pollution cloud over China and India, the biggest polluters in the world that are exempted from the Kyoto accords. This is contrary to the propaganda, but is true. America doesn`t have a Brown cloud hanging over it and the the days of smog alerts and industral clouds are long past.
You could advise that we write our congressmen and Senators to make China stop polluting.
We could buy cars that are better at gas milage when we need a new car.

basically, it all starts within ourselves. no good moves would be worth it if we as humans still doesn't play our role. among the common reasons is "even if i do help, it's just a small portion,it won't cause any effects as it's like almost negligible".that's where we went wrong, as small portion leads to bigger portions especially through unity.
as for the saving energy part, the list is endless.renewable energy is a good start.sharing cars to work is another, and it helps limit pollution too. but we must always bear in mind that ideal and practical would never be achievable as equals, so when we say saving, we don't mean saving 100%. but our effort should be at 100% to save it.

The answer to this has been reduced down to a simple message - "REDUCE, RE-USE, RECYCLE". Break your project down into those three topics, add in some background on climate change and previous pollution-reduction successes (like the Clean Air Act), and there you go. Not all that hard!

Oh I was going to say put it in a jar, well sensible answers:
Use public transport or a carpool to get to places, use energy saving light bulbs, solar and wind power save more energy than other powered things.
Actually now I'm stuck, there's got to be more, sorry having a bad time at the minute, brains not working as well as it could be.

We need to be using more renewable energy resources such as wind power, solar power, wave power, hydroelectric power and biomass to name a few. Renewable energy is much more efficient and pollution would be considerably reduced compared to the fossil fuels that we are using now.

we can save energy and limit pollution by using alternative sources of energy. for example solar energy, wind energy, bio gas etc.
we have to make judicious use of energy, that means no wastage of energy.
