I already asked this questions several weeks ago and one of the answers I followed but came across this error:

This program is incompatible with this version of Windows
(2000).

The answer told me to insert Win98 CD-Rom and click on My Computer and then right click on the CD-Rom drive and click open instead of auto-run. Once I clicked on open - the error listed above appeared. I could not do anything else but cancel.

You will find my previous posted question regarding subject above by typing in the question I asked.

Thanking you in advance.

I could see wanting 98 if you have old software to run but if this isnt the case, dont waste your time. 2000 is far superior! You might also think about purchasing a hard drive and loading 98 on it as a slave drive. If you however just want to load win98, download a boot floppy from the link below. Make sure your bios is set to boot from floppy in the first boot device. You can do this by looking in your mobo manual but usually its repeatadly pressing the escape key during bootup. Once it is set, insert the floppy and boot up. Type fdisk and delete primary partition and then format.

You will need to format your hard drive to take Windows 2000 off the drive before you can install 98. Windows will not let you downgrade your PC. Note that formatting your drive will delete everything off it (your pictures, music, etc. - so back up anything like that before you do the format).

Boot from the Windows 98 CD
Should get menu where you can select "Boot with CD ROM support" (Or similar wording - sure been a couple years since did Win98)
Should boot to show A:> on screen
Type format c:
Will ask if you are sure you want to format - answer yes
Should format hard drive
Once done, reboot with 98 CD in CD drive
Let it down the 98 install

Microsoft had to types of Operating Systems, one designed for Home use, and one designed for Business use. The Home use versions followed the path of 95, 98, ME, XP. The Business use side followed the path of NT, 2000, XP. Windows 98 and 2000 Operating Systems are worlds apart from one another. Personally, I would wipe the Hard Drive clean of any information and start again. There are plenty of freeware programs available that can do this. Try http://www.download.com

Why on earth would you want to downgrade your operating system just so you can install some really old program that cannot function with the newer OS? The solution is for you to upgrade the software, not downgrade your OS... and try XP instead of 2000.

generally, you are not allowed to backward installtion. Furthermore, windows 2000 and XP uses FAT32 or NTFS system which is not compatible for Windows 98.

However, if you really need to install Windows 98, first you have to boot by windows 98 disk /CD and u can install. If file system is not supported, u need to format.

in case you have not got a win98 software itemizing on your upload/eliminate courses you won't be able to easily uninstall it. you may desire to wipe the hard disk and re-create partitions and reformat then deploy win98. this could of direction delete all information on your hard disk.
