205 and a 1.8 litre diesel, you don't need more power.
Give it a good service, oil, filters, belts, and Change the Plugs, you may see an increase in power from just doing that.
Or you could get an engine from a 405 Turbo Diesel and drop it straight in. But if you havent done anything like this then I hope you have a second car to use while the 205 is off the road. As you will have to buy a lot of tools and have a lot of spare time.
Dont Bother asking a garage as the price will be silly.
Save some money and run it on 75% Veg oil and 25% diesel till it dies then buy a 309 or a Citroen ZX, 1.9 turbo diesel (ZX is a 309 and citroens are usually cheaper to buy) as it will probably cost more than the car is worth to do the work.

Is this a hobby? Or is this your main car? If its your main car forget about it if your not a mechanic you don't have a chance it will cost a fortune for a new diesel engine plus the attachments, then the accessories that will you need. Plus all the equipment and the job is more than a one persons job. If you go to a garage to get a quote they will charge you over the odds as labour will be quite high. You need to ditch this and get a different car why a diesel?

your best option would be to drop a 306 2.0 turbo hdi unit in your 205. This conversions pretty popular amongst the pug community. Though its more common to convert your petrol gti to the turbo diesel. There's plenty of info on forums and allot of specialists that would aid you in your mission, if not plumb it in for you. Chances are you'll need the larger fuel pump and the compatible E.C.U to aid the change in fuel/air ratio and general running of of the new engine. I'd imagine you'd pay upwards of £500+vat for fitting of your engine. (plus engine& ancillareries
