There are several differing ideas as to the mileage that timing belts are changed at but all agree that it should be done after 5 years no matter what the mileage and as your car is 5 years old then it's due changing now also it is in your best interests to change the complete timing kit ( belt and idlers ) as most of the time people only change the belt and are back in before long coz one of the idlers have failed and this can be very expensive as your car is 5 years old change the belt and kit now , it's good advice

It was stated as 80k but since 2006 Vauxhall has reccomended change at 40k including all rollers and tensioners.I think this is just for GM engines and not Isuzu but a quick call to your dealer will confirm this . There must have been some problems for them to have halved the service interval ! Anyone know insider info ?

auto data say astra 1.7 d>td are 100,000 miles or ten years but this depends on what sort of driving you do? for the sake of a 30.00 quid belt & 2 hours labour its all ways best to do it if in doupt.
as this engine does course damage
i should know im a machanic.

I am sure you need to change or get it checked every 80,000 miles depending how you use the car. Do you service your car you car is quite new surely you can't have racked up 80,000 miles yet? But then again Turbo diesels cars are a b***h when they go wrong. My first car was a diesel and i was stupid i didn't get it serviced thought I knew better. (Before you say I do know a bit about car engines) The best thing i can suggest is put your car in a service and ask them to tweek your timing belt lol

Definitely check with the dealership/the manual. It's not something to leave to chance. Depending which type of engine you have, a failure will either make you car suddenly go completely dead (dangerous in traffic) or go dead AND cause serious damage to your engine.

I've experienced both. I went totally dead while pulling out onto a busy road (fortunately I hit a gap in traffic and had enough momentum to coast off the road). On another car, the shop (who swore up and down they had experience with timing belts in my type of car when I specifically asked them beforehand) screwed the job up and damaged my engine.

This is definitely an area where a conservative approach to preventive maintenance is money very well spent.

opel vauxhall say 70000 miles or 7 years. i would also change the small idler pulley in the bottom left hand corner between the crankshaft and the injector pump. don`t let anyone tell you otherwise - it may look and feel fine but will collapse without notice. this engine is the isuzu engine model y17dt. no other 1.7td engines were available at this time

Most auto manufactures recommend to change the timing belt at 75,000 miles. Check your owners manual or dealership and they should be able to tell you. Although, most will go for 100,000 miles, they can cause a great deal of damage if they break while you are driving at highway speeds.

check with your local vauxhall dealer as belt specs changed between 2000/2001.As your car could have been built as early as late 99 but not registered until 2001 you need to check but my advice is if in doubt get it changed as failure will make your wallet lighter a lot lighter.
