Take the 400 northbound heading for North Bay. In North Bay head on #17 west towards Hearst and on to the Trans-Canada in Nipigon, east of Thunder Bay and remain on trans-Canada all the way to Calgary. As you come into Winnepeg there is a ring road that will by-pass much of the city, take the south by-pass. With 2 drivers, you can be in Calgary in about 36 hours, by yourself, 3 long days. Northern route through Ontario is easier to drive than going through Sault Ste. Marie.

The longest route and most time spent driving is going around the Great Lakes in Ontario, that's why most people go across Sault-St-Marie. But if you stay in Canada the only way is around the Lakes then Hwy #1. Then from Lethbridge Ab straight up the hwy to Calgary. Don't try to short cut through secondary roads. They have less services, lower speed limits, no lights, more twist and turns. Good luck.

Drive north up around the great lakes via Sudbury and Thunder Bay and follow the trans canada Highway. Any good Canadian road atlas will have the maps and its a very simple, beautiful drive to make.
