As a construction subcontractor, do I need a contractor's license to hire another firm to perform some of my work?

I can tell the first guy who answered here doesn't have the attention span to know what I'm talking about. I don't need to know anything about quality, and having a contractor's license doesn't have anything do with quality. Don't think you can lecture me on quality, kid.

Not them, you noodles. Read the question please. Do I need a contracor's license? Not the guy I'm hiring. Why in the world would a company I hire need a contractor's license? The guy who hires me has a license. I don't. See what I'm getting at? I'm the middle guy. Do I need one or does the license of the guy that hired me count for the whole job. I'll delete the question if this isn't enough to clarify.

Generally, NO

You do need a subcontract agreement that carefully spells out what you expect them to do, what you do not want them to do (contact or solicit your customers is #1) and what your terms are for payment, invoicing, signing off on accepted work etc....

Being a licensed contractor basically allows you to file liens on customers that don't pay their bills.
Hope this helps.

As just a basic principle, would you really want to expose yourself to that kind of liability if you hired another sub-contractor who *didn't* have a license? While a license may not be required, the assurance both you and the person hiring you will receive from someone with a license would be a benefit in and of itself.

Think of it this way: if you hired that firm or person, and the work they did was shoddy and of terrible quality, then you're leaving yourself open to lawsuits - because YOU are the one who hired that person or firm.

Has the 1st guy actually started doing something or not? while you're nevertheless waiting for an estimate, then you definately can in simple terms ask different adult adult males to offer a aggressive comfortable and decide the only you like perfect. If somebody starts off a role and messes up area way with the aid of, you're oftentimes greater efficient off in simple terms junking them and writing the money off and taking over somebody to place it suitable. criminal action gets intense priced and might take years. in the event that they seem to be a member of a professional physique, you may touch them for tips in resolving concerns. you ought to pay for artwork performed properly, not for artwork not performed or performed incorrect. If a contractor/ worker would not meet a ultimate date, which you have agreed to and put in writing, then you definately do not ought to pay them for further time they take. i could tell the guy to pass away and then initiate lower back with somebody else, as they don't seem doing something. Get the plumber and electrician jointly, tell them what you desire doing and feature them pass away and get ready a joint plan for purchasing all of it performed. usually, a plumber or electrician might have touch they have worked with in the previous and might artwork nicely jointly. Ask them for a reference from a prior interest. If that's to your place, you may hire all people you desire to out of the yellow pages. I even have worked for multinationals the place we %. a close-by call out of the yellow pages to accomplish small jobs around the homes. don't be courteous to those that aren't.

You don't need them to have a contractor license. But not having contractor's lisence also means no bond and no insurance. So whatever goes wrong will affect your bonding and insurance...
