I feel like the students in my classes only speak outloud to hear themselves talk and almost nothing they have to say is intelligent or even relevant to the subject at hand. Speaking in class is no problem, but irrelevant commentary is rampant! But nobody calls them out! Why do grad students do this? And if you are one of those students who talk just to talk, why do you do it? If they are as smart as they think they are, why can't they just save the bull for their papers and censor themselves a bit?

That happens alot at my college, but I'm an undergrad. It annoys me too though, it's just like you said, they just offer comments. It's like they think they have to elaborate on everything the professor says, and I've had several professor's who have gotten irritated at it because they'll get off topic trying to make their point.

They do this because the think just because they are in higher education they have all the answers. You have people from all different backgrounds and life experiences. I think people like to hear themselves talk because it makes them feel important. God gave us to ears and one mouth for a reason. That is to do twice as much listening than talking.

I haven't encountered this but only once, someone went off track and no one else could figure what point they were trying to make. I jokingly brought it up to them after class, to ask for clarification. They never did it again.
