All of Stepen King's books are excellent. I've read all of them and he never fails! The stand was the first one I read and I got hooked. I also saw the movies that were made out of the books. Some are super but others I was dissappointed. I've got a good imagination and Stephen King writes in such a way that it is easy to vizualize what he writes. So perhaps, I was expecting too much from the movies.

You have to ask?

The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, far and away. As you noted, that's actually a series of five books, and its multiplicity of plots, timelines, and overall silliness makes any Stephen King book eating its dust!

That is really a tough choice to make. I love both. I have to give it to Hitchhikers just because Adams did not come out with as many books before he died, so we have to hold what he created closer to us than even the best of many books by King.

I'd pick the entire Hitchiker series over The Stand. I love Stephen King -- HUGE fan of the Dark Tower series, but I really disliked the Stand. Much too ridiculous.

Both very different books! Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is humour and irony. I believe (though I haven't read it yet) that The Stand is much more serious.

The Stand was excellent until he go to the religious rubbish. Hitchhiker was really one good for the first book -- the rest of it wasn't nearly as funny. However, the Dirk Gentley books were great; too bad he died before he could write more of them.

Personally, I have no preference for either. But if I chose between them I'd pick Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, because it *isn't* King.

I don't like Stephen King books, and I'm sorry if that offends people who do.

How can anything be better than a trilogy with 5 parts? That's 2 parts extra for your money!
