My parents told me that I'm not allowed to date Black girls because I'm White. Why are they like that?

My parents grew up in the '50s. That probably explains it. No?

That probably does. Your parents aren't racists, per se, but they do have some problems with race. A lot of people believe this who would be fine with their kids having black friends, just not romantic partners.

Since your parents grew up in the 50's, you're probably well above 18. If you want to date or marry a Black girl, then do it. As long as you love the person.

The 50's? No, not really. By the 50's discrimination was finally going away. If you'd said the 30's That might be a reason. Some parents just have the attitude. I'd bet they would be upset if you wanted to date anyone other than your race, not just blacks.

Of course if you are over 18 and don't live at home, you can do as you please.

No. That doesn't explain it. A lot of parents grew up in the 50's, and they don't make those kinds of rules.

Your parents are like this because they are racists. It's up to you to decide what you want to do about this rule they've made.

I'm sorry to hear that, but yeah it's how they were brought up. It's up to you though to get out of that generational conclusion, if you really like the racial mix. Black girls are just as beautiful as white girls inwardly and outwardly, remember no matter what your family thinks, the choice is yours to make but you must be ready for the consequences of making such a choice.

Ask them why, what are their reasons? You'll probably see that their reasons are based on old misconceptions and ignorance.

I wouldn't put up with it. Go ahead and meet girls from other ethnicity, broad up your experience. If you want your gf to meet your parents, do it in a public place (restaurant, cafe..) where their behaviour would be controlled by the environment (i.e. no yelling, swearing, etc.) Good luck.

Probably because they were brought that way.

It's unfortunate but I hope you will have the guts to break this family belief.

They have racial issues. Race does not make you good or bad.
