The have to hold their heads up in order for the food or water to go down their throats. They can't swallow so they must raise their heads. I hope this helps.

to swallow but ... i think they look at the heavens and say ... yum yum, thank you dear Lord - that mouth full tasted real nice...and then they take another bite and they do it all over again...
