I'd have to agree with Walter Peyton - he did the most with the least -played for some very bad Chicago teams, and nothing could stop him! Jim Brown was great, much better athlete than anyone else in pro football during his era (though I think he would be, at best, an above average player today) - Barry Sanders was awesome, career of highlight films (coulda, shoulda, woulda... he is still my all time fav tho) of course you can't leave out Emmit, but he had an awesome cast around him...

Barry Sanders. Played behind the WORST excuse for an offensive line to ever be put on the gridiron year in and year out, but still, somehow or another managed to be one of the top 3 backs every single year. If he had switched places with Emmit, he would have smashed EVERY single rushing record on the books.

emmit smith is the all time yardage leader, walter payton was the all time yardage leader, jim brown set the standard that everyone shoots for but, i personally think the greatest is still playing and, because he is so under rated, he will sneak up on and, pass some of these guys. Walter Payton all the way. He was so classy, too. And I'm tired of hearing about Jim Brown! He could never have handled today's defenses! The only thing he was best at was beating on women. What a punk*** Jerk!!

Good Question. Definitely Walter Payton! He only missed one game in his entire career. He had heart and soul both on and off the field. He had to deal with a poor offensive line for most of his career, and he overcame this through pure intensity and drive to win ball games.

Too many to chose from so I'll give you the best Fullback to ever play in the NFL, and he's still playing, Mike Alstott.
