Hey all, I am male, 18 years old and I study acting here in Los Angeles since I was 15. It's my dream to become an actor (screen). I am quite good looking (quite the model type), my height is 5'4" 1/2 (without any shoes and about 5'8 at the very most WITH shoes...), would you say I am short? Do I still have the potentiality to grow taller after 18, even few more inches? Do you think my height will influence the opportunities of being able to get acting jobs here in Hollywood? Serious roles, not a Gary Coleman or a Danny DaVito (with no offense to them...lol)

I've studied for many years to come to this point and now the thought that height could influence my future is bothering me like hell... What do you people think? Do you have any advince? Thank you for taking time to read!

Well, you do seem a bit short. But i guess my answer is irrelevant since i'm 18 and 6'2" already.
Normally, human bones grow until the age of 21, but it is not as visible after 18.

And you don't need to be a giraffe to get good roles. There are all kind of camera tricks, perspective and angles and all that. Just look at Tom Cruise! he's rather short but a star nevertheless. If you're acting skills are good enough, you'll break through.

Most of luck to you. :)

Yes, you're short. Sorry. Average American male is about 5' 9"- 5' 10". And people tend to favour taller men for almost all jobs, not that it's right. And no, there's not much chance of getting much taller after the age of 18. You can still try though. You might get lucky. Part of the problem is women here average 5' 4", and the height difference will show no matter what you do.

I'd say you are short for a male your age. I don't think you'll grow much taller, but there's always a possibility. Yeah, height will influence some of specific roles in Hollywood depending on what they are looking for. Danny Davito does some excellent work though. Renaissance Man... Matilda... Who Framed Roger Rabbit... he's great! Despite his height, he's done many different roles. I think he proves that not everything in Hollywood is all looks. If you got a good sense of humor about things... you should be able to make it. Good luck!

You are short but since there are a lot of short people out and about in society I would think that it woudln't be too big a "handicap" if you're a good actor. Personally I think that if you just go out and take the jobs you can get no matter how goofy they are and just do it all with gusto eventually your "ship will come in" if you have talent. Most men who are your size do continue to grow until almost 21 so you might get another inch or two but you will still be considered short. I like short men! Good Luck.

Currently, I think you would be considered "short". However, there is a potential for continued growth (I grew 3 inches in college - currently your height - and I am a woman). I would see a physician to discuss your concerns. There are some growth hormones that you could take - but they are pretty hardcore and do not work for everyone (a neighbor took them when she was going through puberty). Talk to your doctor about it and any potential options. While a prior answer was incorrect (Bruce Willis is 6'1" not shorter than you are), there are some actors who are petite (Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan, Tom Cruise, etc.) and still have a career. I wish you lots of luck!

5'4 is a bit short for your age. However, most males continue to grow until age 26. An x-ray could show bone growth areas.

It's not how short you are that will hold you back. If you have the drive and determination you will make it. Bruce Willis I think is shorter than you are.
