Do I measure across the flats?

1mm = 0.03937"
25mm = 1 inch

yes you measure across the flats.

So, if you're trying to use a 1/2" wrench and it is just a bit to small, and the 9/16" is a bit to big. try a 13mm wrench

13mm x .03937 = 0.512
or you could figure 1/2" divided by 0.03937 = 12.7mm or round up to 13mm.

Well, yes- But I should think that by the time you logged onto your computer, posted your question and waited for a reply, you could have grabbed several wrenches and used the one that fit.

So my question to you: Are you a techno-geek or in management?

Most bolts have a number stamped on them.Guess what; its the metric size.

Paul's right. I have yet to come across one that doesn't have it's size stamped on the head.
