Of course there are many...so many kinds of problems.....Martin Buber's name came up in the yahoo search....someone who can speak to all of us....and to all problems. There are so many other good hearted philosophers who could also go on the list....Bertrand Russell , Marshall McLuhan, Wendell Berry.... I just wanted to hear more lists of names....thanks!

You for asking this question and everyone for answering it. :) But seriously in order to save the planet we need to learn what it is that is truly dooming it and address those problems in a way that will actually truly work. My educated guess is that environmental destruction, global warming, massive natural disasters large enough to collapse the food supply or economy, pandemics or bio-weapons, and astrological impacts are our biggest threats and truly need to be dealt with. Everything else can we keep screwing up and deal with eventually without killing us all, squandering everything natural, beautiful and necessary in the world or totally collapsing civilization.
We need specialists in those areas of largest threat who are also specialists in politics and philosophy. With those three fields cross pollinating each other we'll have people who know the threat, know how to get governments and there citizens to listen to them and actually undertake addressing those threats, and know how to do it ethically and effectively.Therefor we need to seek out those who are as credentialed as possible in all three fields.

No philosophers, but maybe philanthropiststs, by definition. We don't need the love of wisdom (which can occur completely independently of the love of humanity). We need the love of people, if we're talking about saving.
Maybe Dr. Martin Luther King's writings would encompass both fields. His writings/speeches on Agape, are compelling.

JJ Dewey seems a likely candidate. He's written several logical ways to improve on government, to improve on world relationships and several other topics that would be helpful to the entire planet.

Al Gore seems to have a pretty good idea about what is going on and he has political pull as well.
